The Ultimate Moving Checklist for Sydney Homes, Apartments & Offices

Moving in Sydney comes with its own rhythm — strata approvals, lift bookings, terrace houses with nowhere to park out front, and council rules that vary depending on which side of the Inner West or Eastern Suburbs you're on. Whether you're moving a house, an apartment, or an entire office, this checklist walks you through exactly what to do and when, so nothing gets left to the last minute.

    6–8 Weeks Before Moving Day

    1. Book your removalist early

Good local teams get booked out fast, especially around the end of the month and over long weekends. We've built our reputation on 5-star reviews and we're bringing that same standard to every Sydney move.

    2. Create a digital moving folder

Keep lease agreements, strata paperwork, and any building access forms you'll need later in one place.

    3. Declutter room by room

Decide what to keep, sell, donate, or toss — the less you move, the cheaper and faster the day.

    4. Start using up pantry and freezer items

Use them now rather than moving them to your new place.

    5. Notify the people who need to know

Tell your kids' schools, your employer, and any regular services about your upcoming move.

    4 Weeks Before

    1. Arrange your packing boxes

We offer free delivery and take them back for recycling once you're unpacked.

    2. Begin packing non-essentials

Label boxes by room as you go.

    3. Update your utilities

Arrange your Ausgrid or electricity provider, gas, internet, and Sydney Water, then set up your new council's bin collection. Bin days and bin types vary by council across Sydney, so check your new area's schedule early.

    4. Measure doorways, stairwells, and your new space

Make sure furniture will actually fit — this matters more than usual in Sydney's older terrace houses and semis.

    5. Confirm apartment access requirements

If you're moving into or out of an apartment building, confirm lift booking requirements and loading dock access hours with the building manager or strata now. Many Sydney buildings need this locked in well ahead of time.

    2 Weeks Before

    1. Confirm your booking details

Include access notes for your removalist. Flag anything unusual, such as narrow streets, no off-street parking, or apartment lift windows.

    2. Pack room by room

Use quality materials so nothing shifts in transit.

    3. Prepare an essentials box

Keep chargers, medication, toiletries, and important documents with you, not in the truck.

    4. Label every box clearly

Mark each box with its destination room and contents.

    Moving Week

    1. Give the old place a clean

This is particularly important if you're after your rental bond back — end-of-lease cleaning standards in Sydney are strictly checked by agents.

    2. Defrost the fridge and freezer

Do this at least 24 hours before moving day.

    3. Prepare appliances and electronics

Disconnect and prepare them for transport.

    4. Sort out truck parking

If you're in a permit zone or a busy inner-city street, check whether you need a temporary loading zone or parking permit from your council.

    5. Keep valuables with you

Important documents and valuables should travel with you rather than on the truck.

    Moving Day

    1. Be ready when your movers arrive

Stay available so questions can be answered and the move can start on schedule.

    2. Do a final walkthrough

Check the old property one last time before you go.

    3. Point out anything fragile or awkward

This helps the team plan around terrace staircases, tight apartment corridors, or building loading docks with strict time windows.

    First Week After

    1. Unpack essentials first

Set up the bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen before tackling everything else.

    2. Flatten and recycle your boxes

We'll take them back through our free recycling program.

    3. Update your address

Notify Australia Post, your bank, your employer, and Medicare.

    4. Explore the new neighbourhood

Find your nearest café, chemist, and grocery store.
